Which is better—reporting what you think is happening with your projects or what is actually happening with them? That might be a bit of a loaded question, depending on the situation (or status meeting you’re in at the time). But when it comes to the health of your projects and transparency within your organization, it’s always better to know the score and have the real-world data to back it up.

In order to make informed decisions about how a project is tracking, how effectively (or ineffectively) resources are being allocated to project tasks, and a host of things, you need Project Portfolio Management software that’s not only able to give you every bit of information you need, it needs to be able to do it in a way that’s quick and easy to use.

East Carolina University started their search by looking for a dedicated Project Portfolio Management Solution, but after evaluating several vendors, they quickly realized that there could be a more—and very beneficial side—to the story. What they found is that while dedicated PPM would be helpful, what’s even more powerful a solution that combines Project Portfolio Management and IT Service Management (ITSM) on a single platform. This way, they’re able to see real-world data for all of the projects and tickets/service requests in one consolidated view and be able to report the pertinent information out to teams, departments, and leadership as needed. And as an added benefit, since projects often create new issues to resolve, and issues (and requests) often evolve into full-blown projects, ECU can manage and track all of that in one place.

The real-world data ECU can leverage enables them to facilitate difficult conversations (should they arise) and introduce a level of transparency that’s proven beneficial in their organization. Not only has this shift resulted in real cost savings year over year and delivered tangible results, it’s also improved the relationships with stakeholders and clients alike. And at the end of the day, that’s what really matters.

East Carolina University chose PPM software that helps them use real-world data to drive decisions. Learn more
